Who We Are
Matthew Smith - Founder
Matthew Smith is a Co-Founder of Build to Rent to Own (B2R2O). Originally from New Jersey, he graduated from Delbarton School and went on to earn degrees in Finance and Spanish from the University of Notre Dame in 2020. During his time at Notre Dame, Matthew played on the club rugby team and developed an early interest in economic development and socially responsible investment.
Following graduation, he joined Morgan Stanley as Investment Banking Analyst in New York City. He later moved to MRP Realty in Washington, D.C., where he focused on real estate investment and development projects. In 2023, Matthew transitioned into the public sector as a Senior Associate on the Strategic Investments team at the New York City Economic Development Corporation, a quasi-public non-profit Community Development Corporation (“CDC”). There, he worked across a wide range of impact investment programs in real estate, venture capital, and business lending — experience that deepened his commitment to addressing structural gaps in housing access and affordability.
Patrick Korth - Co-Founder
Patrick grew up in New Jersey and attended the Pingry School before graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 2020 with degrees in Finance and Public Policy. While at Notre Dame, he played on the club lacrosse team and developed an interest in public-private partnerships and housing policy.
After college, Patrick began his career in investment banking at Citi in New York City. He later joined a single-family office, where he worked across private equity, real estate, and venture capital. That experience deepened his interest in how long-term capital could be used in more flexible, community-centered ways—and pushed him to explore alternative models for housing and local investment.
